Thinking About a Septic System?
When you’re looking to go off grid—or when you’re forced to due to being in a remote location—onsite septic systems are a great solution. They essentially do what wastewater treatment plants do, just in your back garden!
They work by taking your wastewater and separating the solids, effluent and scum within a large, underground concrete tank. All solids sink to the bottom of the tank where microorganisms go to work decomposing them, whilst the scum rises to the top. The remaining effluent can then be removed from the tank through pipework out into a drainage field (essentially somewhere nearby on your land). The remaining scum and sludge will need to be removed every year or two by a pumping company.
